You have the job posting open. Maybe two. The plan is to put a junior rep on the phones and the inbox, and let volume do the rest.

That plan was built on numbers that no longer exist.

800 dials. Two meetings

2
meetings per month is what the average rep books off 800 dials, per Gong's analysis of 300 million cold calls (Prospeo)
7.5 hrs
of calling and follow-up to secure a single face-to-face meeting (Salesgenie)
27%
of a rep's selling time is lost to bad contact data, which decays 2.1% every month (SalesHive)

That is the average, not the disaster case. Then you need those two meetings to actually show up, and to turn out to be real qualified buyers. A rep grinds through a full month of dials for that.

The phone itself changed. Carriers now screen and label business numbers they can't verify, so your calls land as "Spam Likely" or get blocked before they ring. 86% of people don't answer numbers they don't recognize, and your contact list is going stale at 2.1% a month while the rep works it.

The inbox is a legal minefield

Cold email looks cheaper until you read the rules. In the US, every single non-compliant email is its own violation, and the fine runs up to $53,088 per email. Send a thousand and the exposure is theoretical, until it isn't. In Canada, CASL requires consent before you send at all, with penalties up to $10 million. Under GDPR, fines reach 4% of global revenue.

And the returns keep falling. The platform-wide average cold email reply rate is 3.43% in 2026, down from 8.5% in 2019. A good meeting-booked rate is 0.8 to 1.5% of emails sent. Send a thousand emails, book ten meetings, if everything goes right.

Now the math

Fully loaded cost of one in-house rep, per year (Bridge Group)$90-110K
Time to reach full productivity3.2 months
Average annual SDR turnover34%

Spend six figures. Wait a quarter. Have a one in three chance of doing it all again next year. And at the end of it, the rep is still fighting the connect rates above.

Warm lists convert 10x better

Optifai studied 939 B2B companies and broke conversion down by how the lead arrived. A cold list converts at 1.5 to 2%. A warm introduction or referral converts at 15 to 25%. Same reps, same product, same pitch. Ten times the result, decided entirely by who made the introduction.

Your rep is not bad at their job. They are working the worst list in the building.

The better bet

The SDR path

  • Starts cold with a stranger
  • Fights spam filters and blocked numbers
  • Needs an opt-out line and a compliance review
  • Productive in 3.2 months, if they stay

The partner path

  • Starts warm, with an introduction
  • No filter to get past
  • No consent law to navigate
  • Partners keep sending business for years

A partner program puts your name in the mouth of someone your buyer already trusts. Those conversations skip the wall entirely. We build and run that for you, month after month, for less than the cost of the hire you were about to make.

Close the job posting. Let's talk first.
